Digital Data Omnibus slows down
Progress on the Commission's Digital Data Omnibus has been slower than expected, with negotiations likely to extend into 2027.
Progress on the Commission's Digital Data Omnibus, covering legislation including the GDPR and the Data Act, has been considerably slower than expected. While the Council has come further in establishing its position, discussions in the European Parliament are expected to run into early 2027 before negotiations can begin.
The debate has increasingly shifted from targeted simplification towards the broader question of how the EU's digital rulebook can be made more coherent and proportionate. Eurofinas, together with partners including DigitalEurope, continues to support a comprehensive review of the framework, arguing that durable simplification should take precedence over narrowly focused amendments.
